Bedtime Stories With Grandpa Rome-
Austria X Reader addition

The large nation with thick locks of curly brown hair and muscles defining his perfect body wrapped his arms around a tiny you. He rocked you in his soft embrace, giving you a merry smile as he stared into your eyes as you looked up at him with a pout sat on your face. You did not want to go to bed; instead, you wanted to stay up late with Grandpa Rome and listen to his tales of battle and love.

"Come on (Name), it's bed time now~ You will be tired in the morning if you don't get enough sleep!" Grandpa Rome stated before he pinched a chubby cheek of yours.

You chased away his hand with your own and then tugged at the long white robes draping over his chest. "I don't want to go to bed! Please let me stay up with you Grandpa!" You whined and tugged harder on his clothing while your eyes swelled up with tears. You gave him such a pleading look that he had to avert his gaze from you with a nervous smile.

"Ah~ You will grow up to be a beautiful young lady one day." He placed you down on your bed and patted your hair as he closed his sparkling eyes and grinned. "And with a face like yours you will be able to get anything from any man you desire. Haha~ Of course, you're too young to know about that." He chuckled and you cocked your head to the side, not quite understanding what the older man meant.

"I still want to stay up!" You said, returning the conversation to its original topic.

"Tell you what, little lady, let's make a deal. I will stay up a while longer with you and tell you a bedtime story, but after that you must go to sleep." He poked the tip of your nose and his touch made you wriggle it and scrunch up your face as the urge to sneeze overtook you.

"Oooooooooh... OK then... Make it a long story though!" You demanded sweetly before you scrambled away under the blankets of your coarse bed.

     Rome nodded his head. "OK~ OK~" He sung as he picked up the blankets and gently laid them over your body. "Let's-a see... Ah, here we go, this is a good one;

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful Princess called (Name)."

     "Just like me!" You interrupted.

Rome chuckled and nodded his head cheerily. "Si si!" He then proceeded with his tale. "She was renowned for being gorgeous and friendly, but it was also a well known fact that the sweet Princess had problems sleeping. Her Grandpa was very worried about her, and so he called for the finest medicine men in the kingdom, but even the most smart and prestigious doctors couldn't provide an antidote for her problem.

As time ticked by, the Princess was beginning to get ill from not sleeping. Her good looks were beginning to fade and she had no energy to do anything. (Name)'s Grandpa grew even more worried, and so he sent out requests for doctors and even self-proclaimed magicians from neighbouring lands, just to try and find something that would put (Name) asleep each night so she could get better. Sadly, nothing worked and (Name) remained staying up late in her chamber, hugging her pillow and wishing for a miracle.

One day, (Name) was feeling even more tired than usual. She gazed out of her bedroom window and watched as a mysterious man travelled down the long, winding road that led to the castle. (Name) was curious about who this man was, and so as he approached her home, she ran downstairs to sit with her Grandpa, waiting to greet the visitor.

The large doors opened and the man hidden in the shadows of his dark burgundy cloak cautiously stepped into the palace. He took his position opposite the throne and bent down to one knee before he lowly bowed his head.

'Your Highness, forgive this interruption but I have travelled far to offer you my help.' The man looked up and pulled down his hood, revealing the most handsome and charming face the exhausted princess had ever laid eyes on.

Striking violet orbs sat behind strange glass windows that were balanced on his nose. His skin was peach and flawless, except for a dark beauty mark on the left side of his face just under his bottom lip. His hair was brown, almost black, with a silky shine to it showing it was well looked after. A strand of it stuck up and curved round slightly on the right top part of his scalp. Altogether, he was like one of the princes that hung on her hallway's walls, yet he was dressed in peasant clothes with a rotting cart that he dragged behind him and had parked outside.

Princess (Name)'s Grandpa leaned forward and narrowed his eyes. 'Help? What sort of help?'

The neat peasant flicked the tails of his cloak into the air and revealed a hand clutching a stunning silver flute. The sunlight flooding the castle through tall and wide windows was immediately attracted to the smooth and shiny skin of the instrument and illuminated it with an angelic glow.-"

You tapped Grandpa Rome's arm and he snapped out of his fantasy world for a moment to look at you, his eyes asking what was wrong. "You're using too many big words." You complained.

     "Ah, si si, I will try to remember I'm telling a child the story." He rubbed the back of his head and laughed a little before he dived back into the fantasy;

"Princess (Name)'s Grandpa looked at the man strangely, wondering how a flute could help anyone. His silent question was answered when the mysterious male stood up and let his eyes lock with the Princess'. He then looked back at (Name)'s Grandpa.

'News of your Princess' strife has reached me and I would like to help you put an end to it by using this flute. My name is Roderich Edelstein and if you allow it, Sir, then I will play a lullaby for the Princess that is guaranteed to send her to sleep.'

(Name)'s Grandpa scoffed and waved at the man lazily. 'We have already tried to lull her to sleep with all different kinds of music. I am sure you won't be a different case.'

Roderich stared at the grandfather before bowing his head again. He was not going to give up though, and so he tried to argue his case. 'Please, give my music and I a try.' He held up three fingers and sternly looked (Name)'s grandpa in the eye. 'I request three nights of sleeping on the floor of her chamber, where I will perform my songs each night to send her to sleep. I have to be alone with her, or else my notes will not take any affect.'

The Princess' Grandpa didn't want to believe what he was hearing, but as he stole a glance off of his granddaughter, and saw the dark rings around her eyes and how thin and pale she had gotten, he heaved out a sigh and closed his eyes.

'Fine, but what will you want if you succeed in your task?'

Roderich studied (Name)'s profile. His face remained blank but it was clear by the glint in his eye that he found her attractive, even in the state she was in. Feeling his eyes all over her, (Name) blushed and looked away.

'The Princess' hand in marriage, so I can play her a melody every night to make sure she rests peacefully.'

(Name)'s blush deepened at the very thought of marrying such a handsome man with a dreamy voice. Although they had not known each other for more than a couple of minutes, these were days when it was not unusual to fall in love by the click of fingers. Love in that time was a mystical magical spell that could be thrust upon someone either immediately or over time. (Name) thought that love had struck her immediately as she was in awe of Roderich.

Her Grandpa took note of how she looked at him and then gave his approval for the trial to begin. The first night would be the longest Roderich would have to play for. As Princess (Name) climbed into her huge plush bed, dressed elegantly in her night clothes, Roderich laid down a few blankets on the floor before he stood up by the window.

A sprinkle of starlight entered the room through a gap in the curtains, and Roderich wet his lips with his tongue. He closed his eyes and gently began to blow into the flute. His fingers tapped the buttons and the heavenly notes drifted to (Name)'s ears, but for a while she still could not go to sleep. Although Roderich was talented and the lullaby made (Name) sleepy, it wasn't until early in the morning that she finally fell into her dreams for an hour of so.

Only when she had fallen asleep could Roderich stop playing, so as she napped, he curled up on the floor and rested as well. (Name)'s maid was astonished when she entered the room and found the princess asleep and rushed to tell (Name)'s Grandpa.

'It must be a fluke.' He said, wide eyed when the Princess and Roderich came down for breakfast.

Roderich kept his eyes closed and focused on eating his food before saying, 'You'll see. She will sleep for longer tonight.'

Like the musician had stated, he played the same assortment of songs on the second night and Princess (Name) fell asleep again. This time, she fell asleep on the twilight hour, but still she had stayed up far too late for Roderich to be satisfied. That night, he had time before he slept himself to admire her sleeping body.

He carefully brushed a few strands of her hair out of her face and stroked her cheek with the back of his fingers. At first, he had come to the Kingdom to make gold and a name for himself by using his talents as a musician. He had thought that solving the Kingdom's problem of the tired princess would be a great way to start, as he knew he had been blessed with amazing abilities to express emotion through his songs and send anyone to sleep with his lullabies.

However, when his eyes met the Princess' his heart skipped a beat and he felt an unfamiliar emotion. He had fallen in love with her, and that is why he requested her hand instead of gold. He was delighted that his melodies were the perfect remedy for her, and as he watched her rhythmic breathing as she dreamt, he only hoped that the third night would work as well, so he could not only grant her wish, but now his own of claiming (Name) as his wife.

The next morning, (Name)'s Grandpa was practically choking on his breakfast as (Name) spoke about how brilliantly she slept. 'This can't be true... you must be a sorcerer surely?!'

Roderich shook his head. 'I am not magical.'

Princess (Name) placed her hand on top of Roderich's which caused him to look up with a faint expression of shock on his face. He wondered what had made her suddenly touch him, so he greeted her gaze with his own.

'You are magical to me, Roderich.' (Name) whispered as her heart pounded against her chest with all its might. She watched how his cheeks became a pastel-pink and that he timidly turned away.

'I'm really not!' He corrected, almost as though he was angry that she complimented him. She only chuckled though, understanding that he was more embarrassed than angry.

The third and final night of the trial began, but before Roderich began to play, he sat on the bed beside (Name). 'How are you feeling?' He asked with a small smile.

'Chirpy! Thank you so much for coming into my life, Roderich. I have never had such sweet dreams and I have never heard music as grand as yours. After tonight, you will have granted my Grandpa's permission to marry me, and then I will have what every Princess deserves; a happily ever after.'

Roderich tried to hold back a grin before he leaned in and gently planted a kiss on (Name)'s cheek. It went red at the touch of his lips and as he withdrew from her, that area of her face began to tingle with delight. She shuffled herself under the covers and she instantly fell asleep as soon as he poured all of his love and desire for (Name) into his melody.

It's safe to say that (Name)'s Grandpa finally believed in Roderich's talents and the Princess was allowed to marry him. It was never found out what made Roderich's flute able to send the Princess to sleep, but some people believe that it was the hand of fate entwined with the power of true love that did it. Other's think that Roderich was lying and the flute had really been enchanted! Oh, and As for what happened on their wedding night, I'll tell you when you're older~"

Grandpa Rome had finished his story and he turned to look at you to ask whether you liked it or not. You, however, was clutching your blankets and sleeping soundly. Rome chuckled a little and whispered "Looks-a like I don't need a Roderich here. Sweet dreams, (Name)." He leaned down and gave you a kiss on the forehead before stroking your hair and leaving you to your slumber.
